Exercise increases Fertility
The road of infertility and healing is very difficult. Its emotional, stressful and discouraging. Our society has led us down a road of unhealthy eating behaviors that have caused a high amount of men and women to become slightly to completely infertile.
What causes infertility?
A lot is unknown about all the specific links. What we do know is, just like any other disease, what happened in utero when we were a fetus, environmental factors, diet and exercise all play big roles in the health of our bodies.
With a fertility diagnosis like PCOS, a known cause is not clear. Research states that results OR causes, we don’t know which came first, come in the form of insulin resistance, higher testosterone levels, lower progesterone levels (maybe) and overweight/obesity. A small percentage of women, myself included, are not overweight or obese so our root cause may be more genetic than others. Again, it varies woman to woman.
With other fertility issues in both men and women, the cause might be more or less apparent. What we CAN control is what we feed our bodies to heal themselves and how we move in appropriate, healthy ways.
Being diagnosed with PCOS has led me down a path of research and answers. Currently I do not want children, but that can change in the future! But I have no idea if it’s even a possibility for me. So what I’m doing now, today will impact my future decisions. From research I’ve found, diet plays a huge factor in fertility. To improve insulin sensitivity, this study found that changes in diet and a consistent exercise routine were game changers!
Another study found, women who are healthy at least one year before fertility treatments had better outcomes versus those who were not. Cleaning up your diet, lifestyle and adding exercise benefits you short and long term, says this study. Even during fertility treatments!
This study found that 6 weeks of structured exercise and a lower calorie diet increased the probability of ovulation for women going through clomiphene citrate treatment.
The reason I’m throwing all this research into this blog post is because I want you to understand that the medical community has clear access to this information and yet they don’t recommend it to us. My OBGYN clearly didn’t when I was diagnosed. I had to do the research myself!
Benefits of exercise and a clean diet are real and apply to everyone, no matter their life stage or disease or situation. Prevention is the best way to avoid surprises and prevention comes in the form of healthy foods, lots of movement, stress management, great quality sleep and laughing! Yes laughing! We need to enjoy ourselves!
When it comes to having a good time, exercise and nutrition, I help my clients with it. If you need help, contact me, that’s why I’m here!
Much love,
