Day 9 – The Almighty Transversus Abdominis!

 

So we talked about the important of squeeeezing those pelvic floor muscles.  Now were moving north to the very important corset you wear each and every day, your transverse abdominis! The picture above clearly shows the wrap around of this muscle that protects your spine and pelvis. It is the deepest muscle of your core (see below).  The TA also works in tandem with the pelvic floor muscles!

It’s been found that women with strong TA have less postpartum muscle dysfunction or weakness. That means a strong core before birth equals a strong core after. A stronger core also aids in birth because you have a higher stamina with muscles that can contract strongly and with purpose!
