Part I: Your Thoughts Don’t Control You

This week has been tough for many clients, many women and myself. These repetitive patterns I see running through all of us, so know you’re not alone with your struggles.

Here is the key to enlightenment, to joy, to feeling those little wins you need to reach the ‘big win’:

Your thoughts don’t control you.

Your thoughts, those things that pop up in your head. DO. NOT. CONTROL. YOU.

You have thought, it means nothing.

Absolutely nothing.

Only you CHOOSE to give it POWER over you.

Is that thought going to derail you for the rest of the day, week, month?

Is that thought going to persuade you to eat the ice cream and donuts and drink the wine?

Is that thought going to diminish and belittle all the hard work you’ve done?

Is that thought going to send you to bed to hide from the world for the rest of the night?

Are you picking up what I’m putting down here? Thoughts flow in our brains all the time. It’s our life mission to let them also flow out. Non-attachment.

What sets me apart from others still finding their footing? I CONSCIOUSLY REALIZE that thoughts are things that I don’t have to listen to. They don’t control me. My thoughts do not have to impact my actions.

Yes, I have bad days. I feel overwhelmed, sad, angry. Thoughts pour in like usual.

Ones that say: “oh wouldn’t it be nice to cancel all your appointments today and eat pizza in bed while watching netflix all day!”

Yes actually, that sounds fucking fantastic. But I CONSCIOUSLY know it’s not the right choice to make. Just because I WANT it, doesn’t mean it’s the action I take.

WANTING won’t get you anywhere. When you WANT, your controlled by your thoughts. There is no awareness there to say, “hey wait, that thought sounds cool in theory, but it won’t help me. It won’t help me move through this feeling. It will only dig me deeper into the feeling.”

Choose ACTION that will help move you through the feeling to a feeling you desire. Remember, YOU’RE IN CONTROL HERE, not your thoughts. My power words are “Sacred Courage” and “Bounty”. When I’m feeling stuck, overwhelmed, sad, angry, I choose activities, NOT THE THOUGHTS, that will help me feel those things.

For example, while I write this I feel extremely overwhelmed. What helps bring me back to peace is movement, especially dancing. I plan on shakin’ my rump to some loud, bumpin’ hip-hop in a few moments after I finish this up. Movement helps me realize that it’s all in my head and I need to drop into my body. I have to shake the energies loose to create space.

Your thoughts are nothing until you make them something. Choose to listen to the good ones and ignore the b.s. Trust me, it’ll get easier and easier to let the ‘negative’ thoughts float away without so much influence. It’ll only happen if you PRACTICE it. Action only YOU can do. So step up, be the fierce #radlady you are, DO THE NECESSARY WORK to get whatever it is you desire.

Dance time.

Mucho Love,

Colleen
