Greentopiaaaa!

This is the 2nd year my parents, Alex, and I have attended Rochester’s Greentopia! Last year was such an enjoyable time, we were definitely heading back this year! I didn’t think there were as many vendors this year, but that was okay. The vendors present were awesome and trying to save the planet! Take NY Organ Donor program, they created some pretty witty t-shirts to hand out this year! Love it! I’m sad because I’m not QUITE ready to recycle myself yet. I still got some livin’ to do with these organs!!

Next we came upon a very nice gentleman who makes these amazing soaps and shampoo bars for his business called South Wedge Botanical Soap. They smell AMAZING and I would be honored if he allowed me to use his soaps in the new studio! These products are 100% natural void of detergents or synthetic fragrances. He grows what he can in his south wedge garden! We’re talking SUPER local products here people!

This bag is my favorite purchase of the day! I purchased it from Kingdom Ventures who support a program called StopStart whose mission it is to Stop human trafficking and Start new successful lives by training kids and adults in language, design, machining, and management. This bag was originally created to transport fish food.  It was washed and dried and packed again with rice. These large bags then get sent to women of this program who then create all types of different bags, purses, wallets, tablet covers, etc. all from recycled materials. I plan on using this bag to transport all my goods to the new studio every day! It’s rain/snow proof which is exactly what I need! Photo on 9-15-13 at 2.40 PM

I love how every purchase has a story and is supporting either a person making their lives better or a local business owner making a living just like I am trying to do. Being green, sustainable, and shopping local is for people who care not only about the products they’re buying but also how their dollars are being used once they make the purchase. It feels really awesome knowing my $$$ today went to game-changers, people making a difference in their lives, or someone else’s.

Did you purchase anything lately that is sustainable, green, local, organic? Please share and/or post a picture!
