Day 4 – inferior vena cava compression
If you end up cutting off circulation by laying on your back after the first trimester, rolling to either side immediately relieves compression and restores normal blood pressure.
The inferior vena cava returns blood back to your heart. Laying on your back can cause dizziness or nausea but your body will naturally become uncomfortable and urge you to shift. When you are sleeping, the same applies. Your body will wake you up so that you roll to your side.
During exercise, be aware of this and adjust where necessary. If you have no idea how to work your abs without doing crunches, try planks, crunches on a stability ball, plank on a stability ball, or cat cow. Need more help? Schedule an appointment and we’ll go through some ideas together!
