My Delicious Coffee Obsession

Yes, I know that coffee isn’t the greatest thing for my hormones. As written in the ‘Hormone Cure’, caffeine negatively affects progesterone (amongst other things). Caffeine in any form. Black tea, green tea, coffee….. Alcohol is also on the list of hormone disruptors. In the beginning of my keto journey (aka 1 month ago tomorrow!), I went through major withdrawal from IPAs, coffee and carbohydrates. I imploded 2 weeks in when I finally allowed myself to have a pour over at one of my favorite Rochester spots, Pour Coffee on Somerton St. Ahhhhhhmaaazzinnnggggg!! I figured if I was going to have coffee, I was going to have the best! Yum yum yum.

Since then I’ve limited myself to 1 cup per day, here and there. Depriving myself was making my cravings stronger and finally I caved. I hate the ‘deprivation’ way of living because its always the same outcome. You ‘cave’ because it’s our human nature to want what we can’t have. As my dad says, ‘everything in moderation.’ It’s very true. If you allow yourself a little bit of something, every day or once in a while, you won’t crave it as badly and you’ll feel more liberated.

Remember, if you’re drinking coffee, BLACK, whole milk (organic when possible!) and no sugar! If you’re consuming pour over or french pressed, there’s no need for additives because coffee, like wine, has a variety of flavors that make drinking it so enjoyable.  Also, I found this awesome blog about coffee. It shows you the worst drinks at Starbucks, the ingredients in creamers and how to make your own delicious coffees at home, with WHOLE foods. Love it! If you try some one, please comment with what you try!!
